I have gained joy

Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The word ‘joy’ means to be happy right? Well, not exactly. Being happy is very much based on your circumstance. When things are going great, we’re happy! The Bible even talks about happiness, but it’s almost always conditional. For example, happy is the one who finds wisdom (Proverbs 3:13).

Joy on the other hand, is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), and there’s no toiling or conditions with joy once you are a child of God! Joy does not waver with your circumstance, it is rooted and founded in your relationship with God. So, if we know that joy is a fruit of the Spirit, how do we ‘bear’ this fruit? John 15:4-5 answers this by saying we will bear fruit if we are connected to Christ. When you have a personal relationship with God, it is impossible not to bear fruit!

Prayer: God, thank You that You fill me with joy, peace, love and all the other fruits of Your Holy Spirit. Help me to remain forever connected to You. Help me to cultivate my relationship with You. Speak to me throughout the day, and may I overflow with the hope You have promised. In Jesus name, Amen.
