I will get closer to God through worship
Hebrews 13:15 – Through Him, therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.
Do you remember the famous Matt Redman song, 'The Heart of Worship'? Arguably one of the greatest worship songs of all time. But it’s not because it’s a catchy tune that made it so powerful, but what the lyrics represent.
There is a line in the song that goes: "I’m coming back to the heart of worship and it’s all about You, it’s all about You Jesus."
Redman said there was a season where his church decided to refocus their worship, leaning on their voices and Bibles only, rather than the instruments, or who was leading the songs on stage. It made him question his own motives while he performed, asking himself was he doing it for service or was he building “his own little thing”. Those questions led him to write this song.
It is very easy to get caught up in the amazing worship songs we have been blessed with and sing them passionately, without realising who you are singing to.
Worship is many things. But one thing for certain, it’s about God and God alone. Worship’s about being in awe of the Creator, His creations, and who He is; it’s about glorifying His Name; it’s about thanking Him for everything He’s done for us; it’s about letting the Lord know how much we love Him; and like another line in the song says, it’s about bringing Him more than a song.
Take a moment to go back to the heart of worship today!
Prayer: Lord, You are amazing and I am in awe of You. I thank You for every great thing You do for me. No matter what I may be going through in life, I pray that I will always give You the praise, worship and glory You deserve. In Jesus name, Amen.
