I am adopted into God's family
Ephesians 1:5 - God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure.
It may seem strange to think that when we talk of our identity that the word 'adopted’ would come up. But there is so much power and promise behind this one word. To be adopted by God means you are legally His child. There was a sacred transaction where Jesus gave his life so that we could become part of God’s family. Think of it as God giving His only Son in exchange to gain us, legally. A transaction that nobody and nothing can dispute – we belong to Him! God didn’t adopt us begrudgingly – He wanted to! It delighted Him!
As a child of God, we have equal rights in God’s family as Jesus does! Romans 8:17 puts it like this – we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. While our natural minds may struggle to believe this, there’s no denying that our identity and value as God sees us, is so much more than we thought.
Prayer: Father, words cannot express my gratitude to be a part of Your family. To be Your loved child. Although I don’t deserve it, thank You that I am a co-heir with Christ. Help me to never forget that I am so loved by You, that You paid the highest price to adopt me. In Jesus name, amen.
